🌿 Devotional: God or gods?

Scripture:

“You shall have no other gods before Me.” — Exodus 20:3 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” — Matthew 6:33

Reflection:

In a world full of noise, glitter, and promises, it’s easy to build altars without realizing it. Not of stone, but of approval, success, control, or even fear. These “gods” whisper, “If you serve me, you’ll be safe. You’ll be loved.” But they never satisfy. They demand more and offer less.

The true God—the One who sees you, knows you, and calls you by name—doesn’t compete. He invites. He doesn’t manipulate. He loves. When we choose Him over the gods of this world, we trade striving for peace, performance for grace, and fear for freedom.

We are called to seek first the kingdom of God—to place Him above every other pursuit, every other voice. That means depending not on our own strength, not on worldly validation, but on the one true living God, our heavenly Father. He is faithful. He is enough.

Prayer Prompt:

Lord, reveal the places where I’ve bowed to lesser things. Help me return to You—the One true God who loves without condition and leads with mercy. Teach me to seek Your kingdom first, and to depend fully on You.

Journaling Questions:

What “gods” have I unknowingly served—approval, control, fear, success?
How does choosing God change the way I see myself today?
What does it mean to live as a Bright Soul crowned by grace, not by performance?
Where am I being invited to depend more deeply on my heavenly Father?

Affirmation:

I am not defined by the gods of this world. I belong to the One who made me, loves me, and calls me His. I seek first His kingdom, and I trust Him to provide everything I need.
